I was brought up near Manchester, spent some time in different parts of the UK and till becoming a monastic, had worked in the water pollution control Industry. I was ordained in 1977 at Shasta Abbey, California, and stayed there for five years, before returning as part of a small group of monks to Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey in Northumberland. I lived at Throssel for many years, helping to build the buildings as well as a variety of other jobs. For the last 10 years I have been based at Telford Buddhist Prory and am the European Advisor for the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives. I have been a Buddhist prison chaplain for over 25 years and regularly visit 3 prisons in this area. I am part of Angulimala, the Buddhist Prison Chaplaincy Organisation, and serve as the Secretary and Co-ordinator. For almost 10 years I have been the OBC representative for the Network of Buddhist Organisations(UK) and for much of that time been the treasurer.
